Saint Paul Episcopal Church in Columbia PA is prayerfully seeking a skilled and enthusiastic organist for weekly Sunday morning services at 9:00 am (the principal service of the church), and occasional special services during the church year. Saint Paul has a large and beautiful sanctuary, built in 1868, located at 340 Locust Street in downtown Columbia. The parish is growing, with new clergy leadership and dedicated parishioners providing energy and vision for the next steps in the church’s development.

            The church is open to expanding its music program, and eager to offer special musical events to the community. The Cambridge 735 Organ was built by the Rodgers Instrument Co. and features a two manual classical organ that incorporates an eclectic specification and authentic pipe organ sounds through Rodgers Parallel Digital Imaging (PDI) technology. The Cambridge 735 Organ offers full Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) capability, allowing the organist to control other MIDI devices such as keyboards sequencers, rhythm units, sound modules, allowing the performer full recording and playback capabilities.

            Qualifications and Competencies: ● Ability to play both organ and piano at a professional level and ability to sight read music ● Ability and willingness to accompany instrumental and vocal soloists as needed ● Ability to improvise and/or transpose would be a plus, but not a requirement ● Musical knowledge in leading vocal offerings and familiarity with the Episcopal liturgy and the Anglican tradition ● Familiarity with Episcopal hymnody and service music ● A willingness to play for weddings and funerals as schedule permits (for additional compensation) ● Strong communication and interpersonal skills ● Ability to work collaboratively with others ● A strong Christian faith which guides the musician’s life Compensation negotiable.

Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren is looking for a Congregational Organist/Pianist. Primary duties include: prepare, practice, and perform the necessary musical portions of the Sunday morning worship service. In addition, prepare and perform for special services throughout the church year, attend rehearsals as accompanist for the adult choir, accompany
ensembles/soloists/etc. as coordinated with music coordinator and/or pastors.

Performance Duties: with pastors and music coordinator regarding music that supports the worship theme and elements; Select and prepare music for the solo portions of the Sunday morning worship service; Prepare pre-selected congregational singing accompaniments.

Instrumental Duties: Determine organ registrations, set them at the organ console, and practice them for effectiveness; Maintain manual and pedal dexterity by regular practice on the organ and sanctuary piano; Select new organ and piano compositions to meet the special and changing needs of the services; In coordination with the church office and music coordinator, stay on top of regular maintenance of the organ and sanctuary piano by qualified and trained professionals.  Rehearsal Duties: Rehearse and accompany the adult choir during all rehearsals, Sunday morning worship services, and other occasional special events; Rehearse with other musicians, ensembles, or soloists, and prepare for all such rehearsals in consultation with the music coordinator and pastors; Consult with pastors for weddings and funerals as needed; Collaborate with the audio technicians to establish proper balance of all keyboard instruments to ensure helpful and effective musical balance in worship.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements: Experience in worship music performance; Familiarity with a wide variety of music genres; Strong organizational skills; Ability to work effectively with people of all ages; Ability to collaborate with music coordinator, groups of musicians, and pastoral staff; Demonstrated proficiency in playing pipe organ, piano, and electronic keyboards; Experience with/aptitude for playing digitally enhanced pipe organs is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits: Annual stipend.  Four Sundays off annually (Please notify the pastor and music coordinator at least 4 weeks in advance of an absence, when possible, so a substitute can be arranged; In the event of an emergency absence, the pastor and music coordinator should be notified as soon as possible).

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (Lancaster PA) is seeking a Cantor.

Good Shepherd is committed to living out the unconditional love and radical hospitality of Jesus in our worship, in our service to the world, and in our shared life. We are currently in the Reconciling in Christ (RIC) discernment process with the objective of broadening our welcome to reflect our vision more fully. LCGS is home to Dobson opus 83 (mechanical action, II/24/27), a Steinway Model B, and five octaves of Schulmerich handbells.

The Cantor will serve as organist and director of music and will be responsible for the following: • Leading the assembly’s worship of Godby organ, piano, and other musical instruments. LCGS has one Sunday liturgy at 10am and seasonal festival services. • In consultation with the Pastor, plan the assembly’s liturgies, hymns, and worship schedule. • Work with the vocal choir, handbell choir, soloists, and other musical groups in supporting the assembly’s worship. • Schedule substitute organists when the Cantor is not available. • Oversee the copyright requirements for print and livestream materials. • Engage musicians for festivals and other liturgies as appropriate. • Provide for the tuning and maintenance of the organ, pianos, and other musical instruments and related budgeting. In addition, the Cantor shall: • Have first right of refusal for all weddings and funerals. • Be permitted to use church organ and piano for private teaching.

Skills and Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in music, church music, or other related degree preferred. • Demonstrated knowledge of Lutheran theology, liturgical practice, and use of music in worship preferred. • Demonstrated skill and competency at the keyboard, particularly organ and piano, and a working knowledge of other instruments. • Experience and competency directing ensembles of all age groups. • Ability to work well with others and participate collegially with staff members, Pastors, and congregational leaders.

Salary and other benefits commensurate with level of education and experience. The position averages 20 hours per week with an expected salary range of $22,000-$32,000.

Grace United Methodist Church in Hummelstown PA is seeking a Director of Music to lead and grow our music ministry in a way that enhances worship and glorifies God.

Memorial Church of the Prince of Peace (Episcopal) in Gettysburg, PA seeks an Organist-Choir Director. This is a part-time salaried position with an expected average time commitment of 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to guide and continue to develop the music ministry of a vibrant parish with a rich history.

The responsibilities of the position include: serving as organist during a Sunday and other services; directing an adult choir in a weekly rehearsal and during Sunday services; and organizing music for special services. St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pennsburg is seeking either a part-time Organist or Organist/Music Director to nurture the spiritual growth of the congregation through leadership in worship and musical ministries. St. Mark’s boasts a 28 rank pipe organ built by Patrick J. Murphy in 2000. The instrument has been featured in the AGO magazine. The sanctuary also has a Baldwin grand piano.

Currently, the congregation is worshiping at one traditional Lutheran Sunday morning service with a choir. Familiarity with Evangelical Lutheran Worship liturgies is a plus. Additional worship, including seasonal services at Christmas and in Lent are also held.  The church organist gets first refusal for all weddings and funerals with additional compensation.

Compensation is commensurate with skill and experience, and is competitive.  Knowing that the pool of organist candidates is limited, we are willing to be flexible with the candidates desire for the parameters of the position.
